What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Microneedling is a technique that rejuvenates the skin by doing hundreds of tiny needle sticks. The needles are very small and go just into the skin. They feel rough but require no anesthesia. The needles cause minor superficial trauma to the skin. Then, the healing response not only tightens the skin, but also improves pigment and surface irregularities like scars and stretch marks. Microneedling alone is effective on superficial skin issues.

What is the importance of adding radiofrequency to the needling?

We use radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin. Adding radiofrequency to the needling enhances both the tightening and the rejuvenating effect.

Both microneedling and radiofrequency induce a healing response from the body. The injured areas release chemical messengers known as growth factors. These growth factors call in healing cells like macrophages, fibroblasts and stem cells. These cells clean up the damage. They also repair damage like age spots and old collagen. The result is rejuvenated skin. The combination results in a greater healing response than either procedure alone. It is like adding 1+1 and getting 3 because of the work they do together.

The combination approaches the effectiveness of some aggressive lasers with no downtime and none of the swelling or discomfort. The Legend system is also very safe, even when compared to other RF needling devices. Some of the other devices can go too shallow and have no benefit. Others can go too deep and even scar if the operator pressed too hard. The Legend system is automated so that it triggers with just the right pressure and you can't press too hard. This makes Legend RF needling one of the safest and most effective skin rejuvenating procedures available.

How long does a treatment take & what is the RECOVERY?

Depending on the area, a treatment usually takes about 20-40 minutes. The tiny wounds remain open for about 4 hours, so we advise you to not put anything on your face including makeup for about 4 hours. After that you may be a little red overnight, but it is fine to use makeup. Swelling and bruising is unusual.

How many Legend RF needling treatment do I need?

We typically recommend about 6 treatments about 3 weeks apart. Each treatment builds on the previous treatment. The first treatment induces release of chemical messengers known as growth factors. Special healing cells respond to the growth factors and cause a healing and rejuvenating response.

When cells and growth factors are already present, an even greater growth factor and cellular response occurs. Therefore, multiple treatments 1-2 weeks apart results in a greater response than treatments several weeks or months apart.

When would you use Radiofrequency Microneedling instead of Radiofrequency without the Microneedling?

If we are wanting tightening over a large area and smoothing, radiofrequency without the needling is recommended. If you have color changes or surface problems like scars or stretch marks, microneedling with RF is recommended.
